Votes could be held next week.
Representative Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, and Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama, Vice Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced they have reached a deal on an omnibus spending bill that will fund the government through the current fiscal year, ending September 30, 2023.
While negotiations will continue on the final spending bill, Representative DeLauro said, “We have a framework that provides a path forward to enact an omnibus next week.”
Senate Appropriations Chairman Patrick Leahy of Vermont stated, “The pain of inflation is real, and it is being felt across the federal government and by American families right now. We cannot delay our work any further, and a two-month continuing resolution does not provide any relief.”
The votes are expected to be held next week. In the meantime, Congress will need to pass a short-term continuing resolution to avoid a shutdown at midnight on Friday, when current government funding runs out.
